The Architects of Arch Hill
Dixon Wild has been located in Arch Hill for many years. Arch Hill is a great place to have a workplace. It has a lot to offer, from cafes to art galleries. We thought we would compile a list of our favourite activities and landmarks in the area, have a read!
Landmarks
Grey Lynn Public Library
The Grey Lynn library was designed by architect William Henry Gummer. Built in 1924, it has been standing for well over 90 years! There is a lecture hall directly adjacent to the library that can be hired by local community groups.
The Grey Lynn library is located along Great North Road.
TIP sculptures of Western Park
Western Park can be a great place for a stroll or a coffee break under the sun. It offers a children’s playground, public toilets and inspiring sculptures dotted along the landscape.
Access Western Park via Ponsonby Road.
The sculptures seen from Ponsonby Road are Tip sculptures designed by John Radford. They resemble fallen buildings projecting out of the ground like fossils.[1]
”The TIP works refer to a loss of our past via the wholesale demolition of parts of Auckland City. Dumped in countless nameless landfills, maybe these multiple architectural dismemberments have undergone a subterranean reassembly and are about to lurch back up out of the ground” – John Radford Discussion at AUT 2005. The Old Ponsonby Fire Station
The Old Fire Station is located on Williamson Ave, built in 1902. The original use of this brick beauty was the Ponsonby Fire Station. The building is now a restaurant.
